There are several methods to install the U-Cup seal into a hydraulic cylinder. The method will depend on the size and shape of the U-Cup. In general, you will want to use a tool to install smaller or thicker U-Cups. Thin and flexible seals can generally be installed by hand. Please see the instructions below for both types of installation. It is important that your seals and cylinder parts are free from dirt and debris before you begin.

Installing without a tool
Step 1.
Position your gland so that the outermost part of the cylinder is facing upward.
Step 2.
With the lip of the seal facing downward, squeeze the seal on the outer edge with your fingers into a kidney bean shape.
Step 3.
Insert the end of the folded seal into the groove of the cylinder gland.
Step 4.
Using your fingers, work the seal into the groove.
Step 5.
Visually inspect that the seal is seated properly.
